D'Addario Zyex strings are part of the new wave of composite core string making. Light gauge are for a mix of pizzicato and arco playing. Medium gauge are for primarily orchestral playing. The special 4/4 scale E is for basses that need a little extra length for the end wrapping to clear the nut.
