Kun. Long the standard shoulder rest for students and professionals alike. Kun has four basic product types; Original, Super, Collapseable, new wooden Bravo. All models have same basic pad shape, and are adjustable for width and height. Original rest width adjustment is in 1/4 inch increments. The advantage of the Super rest has a sliding endpiece which gives a finer setting for position. The Collapseable rests have ends that fold down to be more compact and may fit in some non-oblong cases. Small size Kun rests come in two sizes, Mini and Junior. Kun Bravo is a deluxe wooden rest with gold coloured metal brackets. The pad is wider, and more rigid, due to the strength of wood. Replacement parts are available for all rests. For 14 inch violas, choose 4/4 violin rest. For 12-13 inch violas, choose Junior model.

Superflexible is an odd design that has almost no restance to the weight of the instrument.

Playonair. Unique inflatable rests for students. If not much height is needed, these are appropriate. Professionals are not incouraged to use this product, as tone or volume from the instrument can be effected. The product claims that it does not effect the tone of the instrument. This can not possibly be true, and is its effects are easily heard on most responsive instruments. Playonair rest sizes are not instrument specific. The Crescent model is the standard round type, and Deluxe is pear shaped and capable of higher adjustment. For viola the Jumbo model is recommended. Jumbo Junior is a small rest with more height. This product has a high rate of failure.
