Use this search to identify the make, model, pitch and gauge of a string from the colors of its end wrapping. Strings from all major manufacturers are in our database. Strings from Dogal, Gamut, Meisel, LaBella, Dlugolecki and John Pearse are not currently included.

To use this search, select the instrument and silk wrapping colors of the string from the drop menus below. Remember that color can appear differently in certain light, or by those with trouble seeing colors properly. If a search does not return an appropriate result, try slightly different selections for your color choice. For example, Select Dark Gray instead of Black, or Gold instead of Yellow. Ring at either end is a short section of a different color at the end of to the peg or ballend wrapping. It is easy to miss this because it is usually less than 1cm in length. Most strings do not have a Ring color.

This feature of our site has taken considerable effort to acheive. We expect to make additions and changes to the information in our search database. Please let us know if you discover any errors or ommissions.
